Default Disappearing dvd drive

I'have an ACER laptop running on vista home premium. The other day I tried to
use the drive but it no longer there. it is not listed in device manager and
in BIOS either. I tried deleting the upper and lower filters in Regedit and
restarted my machine but to no avail. I'm stuck! He!

Since the drive is no longer seen in the BIOS, it is either 1) dead; 2) the
connection is loose; 3) the motherboard is faulty; 4) combination of the
foregoing.

1. Remove the laptop's battery and then remove the optical drive. Refer to
your computer manual or Acer's tech support website for how to do this.

2. Put the drive back into the laptop and replace the battery. If the drive
is still not seen, contact Acer tech support for repair/replacement.
