Click start, type "control system" and hit enter. Under the system type
line, does it say 32 or 64-bit operating system? If 32 bit, then the most
physical memory it will see under SP1 is 4GB. You would need to install the
64-bit version of Vista to utilize more.

Hi, Tank.

As Rick said, look in System Properties. If it doesn't say "64-bit
operating system" under "System type", then it is a 32-bit version of Vista,
even if it is installed on 64-bit hardware. The 32-bit version of Vista is
just silent on this topic and doesn't even show this line, as I recall.

An even quicker way to get to System Properties is to simply hold the Start
button (like a shift key) while you press Pause/Break, usually in the upper
right of most keyboards.

Your post includes the line:
System Type x64-based PC

But it's not clear to me whether this is describing hardware or the
operating system. I suspect the former.

Check the BIOS first to check. How much memory does it show you.
Installed on the system.

Hi, again, Tank.

Replying to myself to clarify...

The 32-bit version of Vista is just silent on this topic and doesn't even
show this line, as I recall.

My recollection was wrong. I rebooted into Vista Ultimate x86, pressed
Start+Break, and the System type line does say "32-bit operating system".
