Default DVD Combo formats to 720MB not 4.2GB

I have:
_Lite-On_it_: CD-RW DVD-RW combo Drive
model: DH-20A4P Which I have installed the newest Drivers from their
site.

When I go to format a DVD-R it says 720MB. No option for 4.2 GB
Plus when I put a new CD or DVD in the player.
Explorer file manger does not refresh the screen.
Data from the old CD is displayed.
There is no Auto screen that pops up when I insert a new CD or DVD.
I have to reboot to get the drive to recognize the new CD or DVD

I have Vista Ultimate 64 - 4GB memory

Can any body help ? I have looked every where to get no answers.
Thanks

I am not sure why you are trying to format it it does not need to be done
like a HDD or does.
If you just try and copy a 4GB file to it with your DVD writer program it
should take care of any formatting required when it actually writes the
file.

You format a DVD or a CD to be able to use it with packet writing software
which comes with Nero and Roxio. The disk is then handled exactly as if it
were another hard drive.

I'm Not sure how to reply to both of you at the same time.
Reply each of you separately or edit the main thread and make it
longer.
Sorry I'm new to these forums. I have to get used to it.

Any way back to this.
When I put in a blank DVD or CD in a pop up window asked me to format
the blank disk so it can be used. I exit out of it.

I did what you said. I put a DVD in and copied files to it.
The meter ran for a while. Then I rebooted and check the DVD to see if
any files where on it. None but a balloon tip come up saying to click
it to see the ready files to be copied. So I did click it and nothing
happened.
I did this every time it came up. It would not let me see the files.
So I used file manger to see what the DVD had on it. Nothing but this
Q-Z (68)
I-P (45)
A-H 267)
So I'm guessing these are the files waiting to be copied. So I click
the largest one. The numbers are dropping. So I think it's copying to
the DVD.
I look at the DVD again and nothing on it.
so I put a data music CD in and now its asking me " Prepare this blank
Disc"
It's not a blank disc. So I put some thing else in a Movie DVD. It
asks again.
Prepare this blank disc.

I never had this problem before when I had Win XP32. I upgraded to
Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Computer runs fast as hell. But some things have
big problems.

So it's Not reading any of the disc I'm putting in correctly.
Maybe the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers it's self or the drivers.
I'm not sure what to do.
Can't figure out why It's not reading the discs that I put in.
Any of You got any Ideals.
Thanks again for your Help
