Default Avast in Notification area

Not sure which newsgroup I should be using. Hope this is the right one.
I have an avast icon in the Notification area. Each time it completed an
virus data base update, it would pop up and make a verbal announcement. It
is quite annoying, and sometimes disruptive.
I tried to hide it by : right click task bar Properties Notification
Area Customize select Hide on avast! ( both ).
Won't work. Still shows up for an announcement.
Any suggestion ?

Go into the Program Settings by right clicking the icon, then go to
Sounds and disable them. You cannot disable the popup box but you can
disable the sounds.

Sounds and disable them. You cannot disable the popup box but you

can

If you want to get it out of the notification area, you have to disable
it in the Startup programs (e.g. via msconfig).

Thank you, but no. It's ok it is where it is, as long as it shuts up. :-)
