An odd fix to the Vista 64 Esata problem
I have been through all the problems and attempted fixes for my Simpletech Pro 1000 Gb external drive to try to use Esata with my new Gateway and Vista Home premium, including swapping the drive for a replacement. No luck - it still would lock up the computer at times, even after being recognized in My Computer, Disk Manager, Device Manager et al. It worked with usb, firewire, and, with Vista 32 - Esata) The Fix: Boot with both the Firewire and Esata connected! I now get ESata speed- using HDTEST Burst 113.5 MB/sec Avg. Read 83.8 MB/sec The drive was still not recognized on Boot as either an Esata drive or firewire drive, but windows found it while I went for a cup of coffee. I hope the brand of coffee is not the fix. I have been using it all day - no problems. Any explanations/comments? -- whturner |
