Will the shredded files be restored?
In article , "john" says...
I use file shredder- Gutmann method to delete the files permanently, but will they be restored in some ways? Thanks. By 'shredding', I assume it probably overwrites the data with junk, then deletes the file. The only way to restore it would be from a backup. Why do you think they call it a 'shredder'? -- If there is a no_junk in my address, please REMOVE it before replying! All junk mail senders will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!! http://home.att.net/~andyross |

I think he wants to make sure they are truly gone and not actually restore them. With software restore method there is now way to do it but there are still remnants of some of the file names and to get rid of that too you need to wipe free space also, just one pass is all you need. |
