"No audio output device is installed" upon wake-up...
I recently purchased an Acer model E-380 computer with Vista installed on it.
I am using the basic two front speaker setup made by Acer. Randomly upon waking up from a sleep condition, I will get the red X on the speaker icon saying "No audio output device is installed". In the device manager the RealTek device is gone. Then when I restart or put back to sleep and turn on, the driver will be back. Is this a known issue, is there a fix? The Realtek High Definition audio driver for Vista is installed(sometimes...lol). Thanks! |

Thanks! Woah! Someone else has the same problem as I! I have a 965P-DS3 (Revision 2) Gigabyte motherboard that does the same thing. It has the Realtek ALC888 HD audio codec chip. Does your motherboard by chance use the same chip? I posted here before and someone said it was a BIOS problem. Later, I contacted Gigabyte. After many messages and tests they said Vista is buggy and to wait for Microsoft to fix it. Now that I see you have another brand of motherboard with the same problem. Maybe this is a Vista problem and not a motherboard problem. BTW I have no problem when using XP. BTW, working with Gigabyte, I think I ruled out the driver causing this. Using the driver that shipped with Vista or the new one from Realtek made no difference. I even uninstalled the sounddriver (via the device manager) and put the computer to sleep. Upon waking up the computer, sometimes Vista detects the audio device and reinstalls the driver. Sometimes it doesn't. The problem appears to be that the Realtek audio codec sometimes is not being initilized or detected when the computer resumes from a "suspend to RAM" sleep state. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks! I just found this problem in the MS support knowledge base. It's article KB929685. Justin I hope you are still follwing this thread. Someone else with
this problem has posted a message he http://groups.google.com/group/micro...6d6389b78167d4 He has an ASUS board and a SoundMax AC' 97 codec (not HD audio like us). Please read my last post in the thread and post your system specs in the thread like I did. Maybe we have something in common causing the problem. "No audio output device is installed" upon wake-up...
Folks,
I'm using Vista Ultimate x64 and I had exactly the same problems with my realtek onboard audio (ALC882M). Previously, I'd had a Soundblaster XFi but decided to get rid of it. I assumed the problems I was having were because some Creative drivers were still in my system and causing conflict. When I removed the XFi and activated the onbaord sound, it was only detected by Vista as an 'Unknown PCI device' ie it made no mention it was a sound device. I tried the latest drivers from my motherboard (MSI 975X Power Up! Edition) website AND the drivers from the Realtek site - neither worked. I was about to re-install my XFi when Windows Update told me there was an important update I should download, something about HD audio devices not resuming properly and causing windows to crash. So, I installed it and restarted the computer. Lo and behold, on start up, the 'Found new hardware' notification came up, and Windows then proceeded to install the drivers which had thus far failed to install. 2 minutes later and BINGO, one fully working Realtek audio device with 7.1 surround sound. Hope this helps anyone with the same issue - read more he http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/937077 "George" wrote: Justin I hope you are still follwing this thread.
