Default 64 bit Vista business hardware problem

I've been using Vista business 64 bit for about 3 weeks now, at first there
was the software/hardware problem, but gradually I've worked that out, I
un-installed the last two programmes Studio and Roxio and my optical drives
are reconised. The two programmes website say it is compatable with Vista,
and that maybe so, but it seems to conflict with the drives, has anybody got
any ideas about what I maybe doing wrong. All I know is that when I installed
the two software and eventually went to bed, when I woke up, I noticed that
I had no optical drives and no matter I did, it would not remedy the
situation?

Doesn't Roxio install an ASPI layer? Could be that which is causing
problems. Backup your cdrom.sys file, install the software you think is
causing the issue then replace the cdrom.sys file with the backup.

Some programs install upper and lower filters which cause your problem. If
installed, you can edit them from the registry, but make sure you make a
copy of the registry keys before you remove the filters.
