Vista is using too much shared video memory
Hi I have a Core 2 duo,intel d946 motherboard,geforce 7600gs 256mb and 2gb
rams.Vista is telling me that I have 500mb shared video memory added to the 256mb of the geforce card,I tried to see if I can decrease this in the bios but it was already set to its minimum of 128mb and not 500mb!! Is there any way under vista to decrease shared video memory? its obvious that its vista which is abusing so much rams,I need to use a maximum of rams for 3D sofware rendering like vue6 that don't use at all the video memory but rams, thank you for your help |

And of course you have shut off the onboard graphics in the BIOS since you

Vista is using too much shared video memory
This really sucks, i had an XFX Geforce 8800 GTS 512 Alpha Dog Edition.. didn't know it took some shared ram, til i looked, it took 512. so whatever, its 512 i can live with it i have 4 gigs Crucial Ballistix anyways. Now, I went out and bought the 9800 GTX + from BFG, and i find myself returning the card for 2 reasons. 1. non stop gpu crashing, with neat little colloured cubes, and 2. its taking 1.8 gigs of shared ram!!! 1779 to be precise. how stupid is this! -- Nemesis_Vince Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |

AFAIK Vista reserves a minimum of 512MB more memory then your graphics card
has onboard so that it always has memory available to create the output buffers required to pass data to your card. So the memory remaining is the amount available for non graphic applications.
