DVD/CD suddenly stops working (GMA-4082N)
Toshiba P100 Laptop / Vista Ultimate
I recently noticed that the DVD writer (LG model GMA4082N) on my laptop had stopped functioning. When I look in the device manager it says the device is unable to start. I've uninstalled it and then restarted, so windows reloads the driver, with the same result. If I start with a bootable disc in the drive the system will attempt to boot from it, so I'm inclined to think it's a Vista issue. Any ideas? |

I have a similar problem. Initially I could play CD's and DVD's on my Aspire
laptop. Then suddenly when I insert a disc, nothing happens. When I click on My Computer there is a red circle with a red line through it, covering the disc drive. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drive, with no luck. I've checked, and the drive is working properly. Am I missing something? -- CSJ "Tribe" wrote: Toshiba P100 Laptop / Vista Ultimate I recently noticed that the DVD writer (LG model GMA4082N) on my laptop had stopped functioning. Dammit I got a similar problem today; my Samsung SH-203D DVD RW drive went missing in both XP32 and Vista64 installations. I tried the registry thing removing LowerFilters (I cannot find any "upperfilters"), but with either xp or vista, rebooting and installing driver for the dvd rom failes, and shows up in the device manager as some garbled text. I have never been this mad before. -- Decoman |

Have you tried a new drive? Checked the data cable and power?

Hrm, this is odd. My issue has resolved itself. I forgot that F2 isnt an option afaik on Vista, its the delete key. But anyway, my dvd rom drive is back in device manager, and I am not sure why. Having the machine powered fully off, I pulled off the sata cable and reinserted it into the last free sata post on my mainboard. I'll switch it back some other time. One of the things I did before the driver thingy went bad was trying to change dvd region from 4 to region 2. -- Decoman |

I have a simijlar situation. I even purchased and installed a brand new DVD
RW. When booting it is visible in the DOS screen, but Win Vista Ultimate does not see it. Any idea "Decoman" wrote: Hrm, this is odd. My issue has resolved itself. Do you have itunes installed? That may be a problem it seeems with vista as some people claim it messes up the cd-/dvd-rom drives. -- Decoman |

Thank you so much Decoman. I read your email this AM before leaving for work,
uninstalled I Tunes and VOILA. All is back to normal. I quickly tested the DVD and its back to normal, I'll test fully tonight but I'm very optimistic. Thank you "Decoman" wrote: Do you have itunes installed? That may be a problem it seeems with vista as some people claim it messes up the cd-/dvd-rom drives. -- Decoman |
