Default A problem with your video hardware caused Windows to stop workingcorrectly

I keep getting the following error message in Vista Home Edition, 32Bit,
SP1 -

"*A problem with your video hardware* caused Windows to stop working

Intel Quad Core Q6600
2 GIG RAM
ATI Radeon HD2600 PCIe
Creative XFi Music Edition
Antec TruPower 650 Watt Power Supply

Error occurs using Catalyst Driver Set 8.7 and 8.8. Did not occur after
any particular driver update, seems to have occured in the middle
somewhere. Reinstalling drivers from fresh does not correct issue.

Using Dual Display, two LCD monitors. Over heating does not seem to be
an issue with the GFX card as it is indicating temperatures within a
normal range. Card is not overclocked via hardware or software.

Any ideas or steps to take? I've read similar issues on this forum but
most predated SP1 or the final release of Vista.

Final Note - I've tried swapping cards to ATI Radeon HD3870 PCIe,
problem persists with new card even after a driver reinstall.

Have you checked BIOS settings with respect to PCI vs PCIe? How about
uninstalling the video completely and reinstalling the (implied) 8.6
driver set? What happens with the currently installed driver if you
back down on enhancement settings or use default settings?
