Default only partial pages print, print job in "error" state

Hi,

I'm running Vista Ultimate (32bit) and am printing to an HP PSC 950.
I've started seeing a symptom where part of the page prints, the paper
ejects, and viewing the printer in the Windows "Printers" dialog shows
the print job in an "error" state (with no explanation of any type as to
what the error actually is).

Sometimes if I use the Windows "restart job" function, the printout
will restart and print correctly - other times not. Often I need to
cancel the print job (which every time requires *3* attempts at the
"cancel job" function) and re-submit it. Then, sometimes it will print
correctly, other times not. All of this wastes a lot of time (and
paper).

Is this a known Vista issue, or is my aging PSC 950 likely to be the
culprit?

I should note that, although I don't normally print text to my Epson
3800, I've tested it, and it has worked fine.

Thanks in advance for any feedback on this.

First thing to try would be a total uninstall and reinstall of the PSC 950.
Although written for XP, the procedure is the same:

Thanks for the suggestion. I went through this process, and the
symptoms are the same.

Hmmm, maybe the printer is failing...

Just a quick follow-up... I found the problem.

The problem occurs when the printer is connected to a D-Link USB 2.0
hub. When I connect the printer directly to a USB port on the computer
it prints properly.

I hope this is helpful to anyone else who runs into this problem...

Thanks for the info "bheiser". I have an HP PSC 1510 All-In-One and was
having problems with printing partial pages also. I'm also running
Windows Vista Home Premium edition and my printer was connected into a
Belkin USB 2.0 4 port hub. My printer would print varying pieces of
pages and feed in new paper and resume the same page. Sometimes, it was
taking 4 pieces of paper to print one page. I disconnected my printer
from the hub and traded places with one of my other peripherals -
connected the printer directly into the tower. Viola! Problem solved.
Just in time to print out important tax forms! Thanks again.

No reflection on you but for general information you will find this in
the HP troubleshooting of USB connected devices -- plug it directly
into the PC and not through a hub, although in general experience a
powered hub is likely to work.
