Default Yet another printer problem

Hi y'all, first time poster. Been working on this problem for weeks now,
kind of sick of not being able to print stuff.
I have a custom built rig that I'll post the major specs for below.
I have a brand new (well, 3 week old but still new) Epson stylus NX415.
Of course, it doesn't work with my computer. I haven't hooked it up to
my windows 7 machine, because that one already has 3 printers connected
to it.

When I go to print on my vista machine, nothing happens. Literally,
nothing. No test pages will print, nothing shows up in the queue, and my
system can't even pull up the ink levels of the printer without giving
me an error. Its like my system acknowledges the printer, but doesn't
know what to do after that fact. This is not the first printer this has
happened to, I used to have an old Stylus CX6400 that had the same
issues. Nothing would print, and I couldn't access any of the printer
features from my computer (scan/copy status, ink levels, etc). I'm not
sure if its computer problem or USB problem, but I'm guessing the former
since I've never had any other sort of problem with my usb.

Networking is not the issue here, so please don't suggest it or
anything. I'm not looking to network my computers. Its not an option
unless nothing else at all will work.

Specs:
Motherboard: Asus M4A78T-E
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.00 Ghz
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate (x64) Service Pack 2
