Wireless and Wired Networking help
I have one PC ( desktop) that is running Windows Vista RC1. It is connected
to the internet via a Belkin wireless-G router via an ethernet cable. I have a laptop PC that is running Windows XP SP2. It connects to the router wirelessly. My question is how do I go about setting up a network so that I can share files between these two PC's ? It seems very easy to do with Windows XP, but with Windows Vista, it doesn't seem as obvious. Thanks in advance. Jeff |

Jeff I did mine by hand (Hate %*&^ wizards) Question 1) Can Vista get to the Internet (IE loads MSN...)? Question 2) Do you know each devices IP address? (typ 192.168.x.y where x is the same for all units and y is unique) Hint if you have the 2 computer icon in the tool tray on XP, Right click and select Status the select the "Support" tab. On Vista, Start Menu, Right click on Network, Properties. Connection: Click "View Status", Click Details (you probably want IPv4 values) Note: Both values need to follow the rule in Q2 above. Other things to check, is both computers belong to the same workgroup. I believe XPhome defaults to MSHOME and Vista Ultimate defaults to WORKGROUP. pick your own name and make them both the SAME. A reboot will be required. You should be able to see each other now. Set your shares as desired. |
