Default Age of Empires 2 Issues

I love Age of Empires 2 (I own the Conquerors Expansion, Gold Edition). Only
problem is that I recently got Windows Vista and have been experiencing these
three problems:

1) The colors sometimes get messed up and the graphics become skewed. The
most noticable example of this is when the grass becomes mixed with red
blotches.

2) I'm having trouble connecting online with other players, regardless of
their operating systems. My friends and I used to quickly and easily connect
together but now the systems (mine and theirs) tend to crash.

3)Regular crashes about an hour or two into playing.

A remedy for all or any of these problems would be greatly appreciated.

I, too, have the same problem with red blothes on the screen. Land looks
more like a toxic waste land. Plus the color teal shows up as yellow in
the small scale map on the bottom right corner. Gets confusing when
playing a game not knowing if its the real yellow or the teal showing up
as yellow. Any help out there for this issue? AOE 2 works flawlessly on
my XP desktop but sucks on my brand new laptop with vista ultimate.

Thanks much in advance.

I had the same graphics problem. I downloaded DirectX9c and I have no
graphics issues anymore.

@Wfoss - If you are having problems connecting to players over the
internet your problem is likely a port forwarding problem. Go to the
International Gaming Zone ('www.IGZones.com' (http://www.IGZones.com))
and get live help through their client. Or you can read up about it some
more at 'Problems with Hosting and Joining games. | International Gaming
Zones; Matchmaking for Gaming!'
(http://www.igzones.com/problems-host...joining-games). Those 2
links should pretty much solve any hosting or joining problems.

If you have any other issues, describe them in _detail_.

Ok I still have graphics issues. I thought they went away but they did
not. Where do you download GFX updates, and what is UAC?

I appear to have solved most of my problems, and I appreciate all of your
help. All of my graphics issues are pretty much over and I play single player
games with ease. But a simple vista-to-vista game (between two computers on
the same router, one wired and one wireless) doesn't seem to be possible.

I am fully able to host a game, but when my brother tries to join he can't
seem to get past the "Press ESC if not connected in 15 seconds" screen. I am
able to see his name in the room, with a ping of 30 (always). I've already
turned off UAC and added the game to thee list of Windows Firewall execptions.

What can be done to fix this?

I know this has something to do with router ports. Look up something
called DXport. All I know is that this program or a program like it
splits up the ports needed for the games between the 2 computers on your
router, or something like that.
