Default Opening Word files from Desktop in Vista Home Premium

After Vista Home Premium SP1 I cannot open Word files through desktop
Documents. If I open Word I can bring up files without any difficulty from
there. Also can't open attachments on Windows Mail. Was ok before sp1 but
this may be coincidence. Any advice? Rod.

Hi rodney,

Which version of Word you're using?
What's the error message you're getting when opening .doc/.docx files?

Does repairing Winword help? If not, inspect the .DOC file association
settings.

1. Download FileExtInfo.zip from he
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/fileextinfo.htm

2. Unzip the utility and extract the files to Desktop.
3. Double-click "FileExtInfo.exe" to run it.
4. Select .DOC file type from the list box
5. Click "View file association report"
6. Copy the contents of the report and include it in your reply.

Thanks Ramesh Repair didn't work. I got down to View file association
report, but it doesn't let me copy, only paste, so I don't know how I can
copy the contents to you. Is there a simple way to do this that I haven't
noticed.

Default Opening Word files from Desktop in Vista Home Premium

Hi Rodney,

My guess is that the DDE is not working (some app is blocking it)

Click Start, type "regedit.exe" and press ENTER:

Backup the following key and delete it.

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Document.8\shell\Open\ddeex ec]

Go to the following key:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Document.8\shell\Open\comma nd]

Then set the (default) value to:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\WINWORD.EXE" /n "%1"

Exit the Registry Editor.

Thanks Ramesh Repair didn't work. I got down to View file association
report, but it doesn't let me copy, only paste, so I don't know how I
can
copy the contents to you. Is there a simple way to do this that I
haven't
noticed.

Does repairing Winword help? If not, inspect the .DOC file association
settings.

1. Download FileExtInfo.zip from he
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/fileextinfo.htm

2. Unzip the utility and extract the files to Desktop.
3. Double-click "FileExtInfo.exe" to run it.
4. Select .DOC file type from the list box
5. Click "View file association report"
6. Copy the contents of the report and include it in your reply.

Which version of Word you're using?
What's the error message you're getting when opening .doc/.docx

After Vista Home Premium SP1 I cannot open Word files through
desktop
Documents. If I open Word I can bring up files without any
difficulty
from
there. Also can't open attachments on Windows Mail. Was ok
before
sp1
but
this may be coincidence. Any advice? Rod.

Thanks folks. I use MS Office 2000 premium SR-1. The message I
get
when
trying to open files from Documents on Desktop is, "Windows cannot
find
C:\.........doc. Make sure oyu typed the name correctly, and then
try
again." Rod
