Internal HD showing as write protected???
My data HD periodically shows up as write protected. I have no idea why as it works sometimes. Sometimes, it goes away after a reboot. It also goes away if I format the drive. However, it returns after a day or two and becomes an intermittent problem. Does/has this happened to anyone else and is there a fix? -- rumjungle |

Internal HD showing as write protected???
i have same problem with external usb drive. And in settings it is clearly without protection. I switched it to other usb port and now it works, but clearly there is a problem. I have asus p5b deluxe mobo. I will write here if the problem returns. -- Raitzi |

Internal HD showing as write protected???
I contacted MS and was told to disable all non-microsoft startup items. After rebooting, it's working. Then I re-enabled only the things that I had to have and it has been working so far. I'll wait and see if the problem returns. -- rumjungle |

Internal HD showing as write protected???
Try to disable 5 to 10 non-Microsoft items & then try to isolate the issue. When you get it isolated, please update that on this website. -- tanuj_chadha Tanuj History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce. - Karl Marx :geek: |

Internal HD showing as write protected???
Hi,
Here's the solution to your issues. The next time one of your drives goes read-only, close all your windows explorer windows, open an elevated command prompt and type: C:\path\to\anywhere fsutil volume dismount h: (replace "h:" with the appropriate drive letter.) This dismounts the volume; the next time you access that drive (h: or whatever), the volume is remounted, "usually" read-write. No need to reboot. I have this issue due to the jmicron controller embedded in my Gigabyte motherboard. I even created a batch file, which I run as admin, to avoid typing the command sequence.
