SiS AGP to PCI Windows Update and Aero and Headache
Yes, I installed catalyst_8-31-100-3-2-1_vista32_rtm. I first uninstalled the previous one. I also used
DH DriverCleaner to try and make sure most of the old stuff was gone. ----- Original Message ----- From: "JW" Newsgroups: microsoft.public.windows.vista.hardware_devices Sent: Tuesday, December 19, 2006 8:21 AM Subject: SiS AGP to PCI Windows Update and Aero and Headache When you say the latest ATI drivers do you mean the Vista Beta drivers posted at ATI last week 12/13? "therealdeadman" wrote in message ... My very quick config: Windows Vista Ultimate HiS ATI X1650 Pro 512 meg 1.5 gig memory Monitor is an older Dell 21" UltraScan P1110 After suffering from the Error 43 thing for several months, the other day (Dec 15), Windows Update lists a "SiS Driver update for [AGP]". Of course, I installed it, then reinstalled the newest ATI display drivers, and finally I see Aero working for the first time, for about 8 minutes. Now what happens is everything seems fine, but then the display will click over to a slightly differant resolution, or just click over to something else, which I think is another refresh rate. After doing this a few times, the monitor will just fill with some random, striped colour, and it will say something like 'Monitor is working. Switch to another frequency'. Sorry, not exactly that, but something like that. I should have written it down. When it does this, I have no way of switching back, and must force a reboot, and start the process over again. At least it gave me enough time to go back to the default VGA display driver. Before I switched back to the old display driver, I switched the Dell P1110 monitor driver to the default monitor driver and that seemed to make it last a little longer before it went nuts again. Anyone have any ideas on what to do to get things working? Anymore info needed, just ask. And thanks for any support on this issue. |
