Windows Search Hangs then Crashes
Out of the blue, about a week ago, Windows Search started to hang. Sorry if
that’s not very technical but it seems to scan about 1500 files and then sits there using 25 or 50 % cpu (quad core so it’s not a lockout) with either or both of the host or search programs running but no disk activity and no more files being processed. I know the problem is somewhere on my main C drive as if I take that out of indexing the issue goes away. I have run chkdsk with no improvement. I have had to turn Windows Search off, which is a nuisance. Every couple of minutes Widows Search crashes and I get the Problem Report – Description: SearchIndexer.exe has terminated SearchProtocolHost.exe because it appears to be hung. Problem Event Name: MsSearchTerminateProcess Problem Signature 01: Microsoft Windows Search Filter Host Problem Signature 02: 7.0.6002.18005 Problem Signature 03: 2 OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.256.1 Locale ID: 2057 Files that help describe the problem Microsoft Windows Search Protocol Host_0.hdmp Version.txt I have copied of these two file to send if that helps. I keep trying to check for a solution but the status always remains “not sent” so I am left in the dark. I am running Vista Ultimate 32 which is up to date on Windows Update. I'd be grateful for aby help -- Hopefully, Simpleuser |

Windows Search Hangs then Crashes
Stan,
There are certainly a lot of posts. Thanks for the reply and the link - I will try and likely buy. Your comments on the microsoft offering don't surprise me. I had a run in with SyncToy to keep files on my laptop in line but made the mistake of using it on my Outlook files. The clue is in the name! It just looks at the file mod date and takes no account of its contents. I have been using Easy2Sync for a while now and it is really effective as it looks at the message and calender entry level. It seems many of the "features" are in fact half baked. -- Hopefully "Stan Starinski" wrote: It is a well known and old fact that Vista Search was a step backwards comparing to WinXp. Go to mythicsoft.com for an alternative that so many people are using now, including FBIA, UPS, Government Agencies. Mythicsoft's FileLocatorPro is too good to be silent about. I do NOT work for any software co. including Mythicsoft, I am a hardware engineer, but Mythicsoft I heard about from someone 2 years ago We all hear about things every day in mass media, too many commercials. This one however was just true, unlike so many ads these days. it's great. Their AgentRansack search utility is also OK and FREE, but you know - you get what you pay for, if it's free it's nopt that great. Its devlopment stoppe din early 2000's or aroudn that time. But FileLocatorPro is a commercial current utility. I just WISH Microsoft acquired Mythicsoft or license their technology for local file searches, Microsoft now offers their Bing, not too bad - Google still is my favorite though, but local file search - forget it. I only use MythicSoft. . |
