Default Windows vista black screen of death

Could you please help me?
I have bought an HP pavilion laptop pc (dv 9500 entertainment notebook) but
since SP2 installation I have found that It takes a very long time to start
with a black screen and white cursor after windows welcome screen and I do
not know what can I do to repair this error please help me.

Why not?

I hve only the built in recovery partition


Which you cannot access, I presume.
Do you get far enough to see F2 and F12 coming up?
If so, press F12 and make your desired choice.
Otherwise you and I may be in trouble and we'd have to rely on the gracious
help of some more knowledgeable people in this group.
