External drive shows up in XP but not Vista...
Please help my frustration... I have a FAT32 formatted external hard disk which just will not show up in PC which is running Vista. I can here the drive connection chime when I plug it in and it shows in the Device Manager window. This tells me it's functioning properly but it refuses to give me an icon so I can access the contents. If I open the Computer Management/Storage/Disk Management window it shows the drive in the list but I can't initialize it or change the drive letter or anything at all. Not sure what the problem might be I plugged the drive into my other PC which is running XP and it showed straight away. So I formatted the drive again on the XP computer as NTFS but still would not show on my Vista PC. I'm really at a loss as to what to try next. Maybe it's a permissions problem but it seems strange that it works fine with XP but not Vista.
