file access help
Hi guys, My laptop harddrive fails to load up vista and there are some very important items of coursework on my desktop that I stupidly forgot to back up. So I remove my laptop harddrive and plug it into my desktop as a secondary harddrive and lo and behold I can access my music and pictures etc. However, the important files that I need are still on the desktop. I can get into the users folder on the laptop drive however whenever I try to access my username to get to my desktop I get the following error "you don't currently have permission to access this folder". Now I know my password for my user profile on my laptop and I assume this is the reason I am being denied access as I need to unlock it however there is no option to put a password in. It then tells me to click continue to get access to this folder however nothing happens. I have tried to alter security permissions as per another thread I've been reading and have also tried to follow the steps detailed in the following thread http://www.vistax64.com/vista-securi...s-folders.html however all to no avail (although I may not be following the steps correctly) I am pretty sure the laptop harddrive is on the way out as it freezes on CHKDSK and the fact vista wont load - so would like to recover these files before it completely bites the dust! Any help will be greatly appreciated. If you need more info, please let me know. Thank you -- 2frustrated |
