Is it possible for a user (the administrator) to delete or overwrite files
in
the \windows and \windows\system32 directories? I want to copy winhlp32.exe
from XP over the stub that Microsoft thoughtfully provided so that we cannot
look at old .hlp files on Vista. Every attempt I make is refused... what is
the
secret to allow people to control their own machines?

If you want to view the help file for an older program, go to Program Files
and look for the *.chm file for that programs help. Double click the file to
open.

Interesting that the older Win16 Help engine meets Vista-era quality
standards, whereas the newer Win32 Help engine does not?

Is this because Win16 Help is safer by design, in that it doesn't
offer the facility to launch code?

It sounds as if the Win32 Help engine isn't just having its teeth
pulled, but may be being re-validated for unchecked buffers etc.

Old apps that use .HLP are unlikely to have .CHM as well.
