Default Why can't I change resolution to 1280 x 1024?

I using a geforce 7600 with the latest drivers installed but for some reason
I can't change my resolution to 1280 x 1024. The highest it will go is 1024
x 768. I had it at 1280 x 1024 in XP but now I can't set it at that. Does
anyone know how to fix this problem?

ATI console and set the hiest resolution there before i could use the windows
resolution tool.

hope this helps, you may have tried this but you did not state other wise

ATI console is ATI's own utility so set up resolutions and other setting on
there Gcards.

Right click Desktop
Personalize
Display Settings
Adjust screen size
Then, You should be able to use nvidia's lame attempt at a control panel.

for a side issue, my ati can control 2 displays, one being svideo out.
if I DO NOT TURN OFF the 2nd video "svideo" I cannot set resolution beyond 1024X768.
disabling the 2nd video "svideo" am able to get to 1280X1024.
if your card can handle 2 displays you might check that out.
