Can't get Media Library to see ANY media
New pc, Vista Ultimate. I have ~4000 tracks ripped from cd to m4a and anther
400 to mp3 (my wife has ripped these) in my NAS. I have downloaded a codec to play m4a (doesn't anyone else think that is just plain wrong - to have to mess around just to get stuff that worked perfectly well in XPSP2 to work in Vista?) which Media Centre now does. But I cannot get it to recognize a single track in the Music Library. I've copied tracks to the /Music folder which appears to be watched by default in Library Setup and I still can't see a single track. To make it even more annoying I can dbl-clk to play m4a tracks, which launch and play but are never added to the library. Media Center seems to be an unusable beta. I've now got iTunes 7.1 which works perfectly. Anyone got a suggestion? After 4 weeks of Vista I've nearly had it. Next time I'm getting a Mac So long Bill, Vista is the worst software I have ever used and until Jan 30th I was a MS fan. |

You actually had to download a codec on XP to play M4A there too, so that's the same experience. M4A files won't show up unless a compatible filter is installed- http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#mpeg4 It sounds as if they play now, but aren't being added? Have you tried the WMP Tag Extender? The MP3 files should show up fine - at what point did they stop showing up... ? -- Speaking for myself only. See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.
