Default Help with all media?!?!

Guys,
Here is my problem.
I installed Vista (home premium) over XP with no problems except that all
media (whether it's on Youtube, Windows Media Player, etc.), kind of freezes
and the sound goes away. I'll be watching or listening and I'll hear a chirp
or multiple chirps and the media freezes. If I try to play again, it freezes
and plays without sound. I've checked my video card (GeForceTi 4200) and the
sound card (Creative SB Audigy) and both seem fine. The drivers and all
video/sound codecs are updated so I'm at a loss...
I'm running a Gateway P4 2.8 Ghz so I don't think it's my processor speed
either.
Any ideas?
