Vista does not recognise my monitor but XP does
Monitors do not need drivers.
All they need is its proper inf file which is, by the way, the driver itself. Carlos "Spirefm" wrote: I wish it did, but it doesn't. You actually got a driver apparently. All I got was a .inf file. |

Tried your method and it didn't work (Vista x64). Works on XP x64 but Vista
tells me the inf is not x64 compatiable. ???? "Carlos" wrote in message ... Hi: Those inf files are all you need. I also had the PNP monitor issue and solved it using the method described in my earlier post. Follow it exactly and you'll be able to use your monitor. Carlos "Spirefm" wrote: Unfortunately that doesn't do it because Vista is looking for a driver for a pnp monitor. If I could change the monitor type somewhere it would work I think but there is no provison for that. In theory the file I downloaded from NEC is executable, but actually its just a bunch of.inf files. Thanks anyway. Its hardly worth anybody's effort! Colin |

Colin DO NOT have Windows search for the driver, manually point it to the folder with the inf files. It will then show you a list of compatible drivers. If yours isn't listed uncheck the box that limits the list to compatible and simply choose your monitor from the list. There has never been an executable for installing monitor inf files (to the best of my knowledge) because that would be a waste of time. Technically, monitor 'drivers' aren't drivers at all, just a list of the monitor's capabilities so Windows (or whatever OS) knows what the monitor can and can't do so it can give you proper choices in the properties. I downloaded exe files from both HP and Envision. All they do is create a
folder on your C drive with the inf files. "Michael Palumbo" wrote: "Spirefm" wrote in message ... Unfortunately that doesn't do it because Vista is looking for a driver for a pnp monitor.
