external hard drive in caddy
I recently had a hard drive crash, tried to reinstall Windows XP, got into a
muddle and the computer went to a shop where they reinstalled Windows again with drivers. It still didn't work and we bought a new computer. I had backed up my files to CD but they were unreadable when I tried to put them on the new machine. I am resigned to losing them now. I have put the old hard drive into a caddy to use as an external back up but the new computer recognises it as a root drive not an external drive and I can only format it to 80% then it stops. What am I doing wrong and how can I put it right ? I really need to back up my stuff properly this time as I will go mad if I lose them again ! I would be grateful for any advice please. |
