Does one have to purchase a separate anti Virus program for Windows Vista?

The Computer Shop that sold me my new PC told me that Virus protection is
provided as part of Windows Vista.

Immediately turned the PC on I received a message recommending that I
purchase an anti Virus program.

I am confused. Please provided me advice on the Anti Virus issue.

Yes, unfortunatly the Computer Shop advised you wrong. You must install a
anti-virus program. Google: AVG Free

HI,
As every one told above, the purchaser may lead you into confusion in
this matter...As no Windows version provide Built-in Anti-Virus
protection,You better go for good Anti-virus available for PC's and
choose the one that best suits your's.

Thank you

There are a few free Anti-virus programs available,
One of the better ones is AVAST!
And it works with all versions up through Windows 7.
