Vista 5536 Will not Install
I just built a new system, and Vista STILL won't install (never did on my old
one either). What happens is I get through Vista setup, and it reboots my computer, then it's on the step of "Completing Installation", when all of a sudden the backlights on my keyboard flicker and flash, and I get a BSOD that references the file nvlkddm.dll, or something very similar. The BSOD flashes so instantaneously and reboots me such that I can't really read the name of the file well. If it isn't nvlkddm.dll it's something very close. Couple notes: It isn't my DVD media, because the same discs that won't install normally will install Vista just fine in a VMWare virtual machine, and I have also tried resetting my BIOS to default settings just in case the overclock was the blame, still doesn't work. Anyone know why in the world it would be doing this? My system specs are below: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.3Ghz ASUS P5W DH Deluxe Motherboard 2GB OCZ Platinum Enhanced Latency DDR2-800 eVGA GeForce 7950GX2 Soundblaster X-Fi Fatal1ty Edition WD Raptor 150GB SATA Main Drive Maxtor 240GB SATA Backup drive Plextor 712/SA SATA DVD-RW Samsung DVD-ROM |

Zorn, update the bios to the latest, which is 08/25/2006 (1201) and not 801
as listed at usa.asus.com (they don't update that as often as the ftp site!) ftp://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/s...20DH%20Deluxe/ You want P5WDH1201.zip Also I run the same processor E6600 and OCZ memory as you, but on a P5B Deluxe, and Vista won't install on this board, had to install with another MB and then swap the mb! Setup doesn't detect cdrom devices for some reason but works fine once Vista is running. Also your processor is a 2.4ghz, overclocking at 3.3 might be part of the issue, try turning off the overclocking. I'd also check the memory with MEMTEST86, its available in many places but its easier to search for ULTIMATE BOOT CD, download and install UBC v3.4 Full and use it to run MemTest86 (not the plus version) to make sure the memory is flawless. Vista 5536 Will not Install
Hi Brian,
I am using the most current 1201 BIOS for my board. I also tried resetting the BIOS settings to defaults in case the overclocking was to blame. But the problem still persists. Vista 5536 Will not Install
I was unable to complete an installation with the Intel 975XBX rev 3.04 and a
conroe chip while I had an 7950GX2 installed. I removed it, replaced with a single video card and completed the install. Then installed the GX2 and let Windows install it's drivers. Then it hung again, so I came up in safe mode and disabled the second video card in device manager and all is happy now. I would like to see the 7950GX2 supported at installation time, PLEASE MS?
