Installing XP will have destroyed the Vista boot system. To get a working
dual boot system you must install XP first and then Vista. If you do it the other way round you will only get XP on boot (as you found out). You may be able to use the Vista DVD if you boot on it and go into repair
mode. There may be an option similar to XP to restore the master boot record etc. I have never tried this on Vista (I have used it on XP) and cannot really help. Even if this succeeded it would not give you dual boot. As I see it, the only way to get this would be to re-install Vista.
