Default Vista Install BSOD - Nvidia nForce 4 Board

Hardware specs:
nForce 4 board
Winxp on 2 SATA 80Gb drives in Raid stripe(160Gb), C:\
2 40Gb PATA drives running individually, D:\ and G:\

Situation:
attempting to install Vista (Beta 2, build 5348) to PATA drive D:\
select setup to install Vista to D:\
Files copy and computer reboots

Problem:
During vista boot into setup, system goes BSOD
Try booting via safe mode and when system tries to load disk.sys, BSOD
BSOD shows a note about a problem with the harddrive and recommends running
CHKDSK
Also, sometimes after allowing immediate retry of vista install, setup will
tell me that Winload.exe (not 100% that is correct name, but close) was not
found.

Thanks for recommendations.
