Default Atapi CD/DVD-Rom Driver Corruption

As I was booting Vista last evening, I got past the password screen to my
desktop for a very brief moment. Then, I got a very brief flash of the blue
screen of death and then the machine rebooted.

Upon reboot, my CD/DVD-Rom no longer functions. I try uninstalling the
cd-rom in the device manager and then adding new hardware. Unfortunately, I
get a driver corrupted or missing message. Is there a way to reinstall the
driver in Windows? My device did not come with a driver file and there
doesn't seem to be one available from Sony's website.

John,
Remove the device from Windows and then do a full reboot, it should be
recognized and installed again.

KoZe:

Tried that and now I cannot log on at all. I am in a perpetual re-boot
sequence. I get to the logon screen, log on and then get a brief flash of
the blue screen (can't make out what it says) and then I reboot. Help?

I was able to solve the re-boot issue but now Vista won't install the drivers
at all, saying that it might be a hardware issue. Is this a known problem
with Vista?

Thx.
