Default Internal/External HDD problems

I bought a HDD caddy for one of my old hard drives. i set it up and formatted
it and it worked perfectly. but when i removed it the "safely remove
hardware" icon was still there, and the device it had listed was my internal
HDD. now Vista will not reconise my external HDD and keepis listing my
internal HDD as an external device. i tried a system restor but that did
nothing.

any help?

Thanks in advance

Have you tried uninstalling the device from Device Manager? Go to Start and
type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Locate your
device in the list, right click on it and select "Uninstall".

If you're not able to locate it there (either under the Disk Drives or the
USB sections), then go to the View menu item and select "Show hidden
devices", then go hunting for it in the extra devices that are listed. I've
used this fix in XP to get rid of stubborn USB devices, but haven't used it
in a long time and haven't used it in Vista myself.

I got my external HDD to work now, but vista still detects my internal HDD as
an external one and my external HDD does not show up on the list to safely
remove devices :S
