Default Dual Boot Uninstall Question

Hi there,

I had installed Vista on my D drive with XP remaining on my C drive. I have
now formatted the D drive. But I still get a bootup message asking me to
choose either Vista or my legacy Windows. How do I get rid of that screen? I
presume there's a file on C that got put there when I installed Vista on the
C drive. Do I just delete that file? What is the file name?

Thanks for the help!

Jason

Default Dual Boot Uninstall Question

Hi Jason,

The file is boot.ini, which in XP you can edit but in Vista is a little
different. Your best bet though would be to boot from your Windows XP CD
into the Windows Recovery Console, then run FIXBOOT. That should do it for
you.

Good luck!

Default Dual Boot Uninstall Question

Thanks for your tip. However, I can't seem to find a boot.ini file on my C
drive. I did a search and nothing turns up. Any ideas on where exactly it's
supposed to be on the hard drive?

Hi Jason,

It is a hidden file on drive C. Trust me, just run the FIXBOOT command.

Use the DVD from Vista while you are in XP.

type X:\boot\bootsect /nt52 c:

where X is the drive letter from the DVD drive.
This will restore your original XP boot folder and Vista is gone.
