UAC popup by
Sam Holbrook
I have Windows Vista Home Premium as my OS.
I have a program that I use daily.
To get it to work correctly I had to check 'run as administrator'.
How do I now get the program to be a 'known' and 'trusted' program?
TIA.
Regards,
Sam Holbrook

Spontaneous reboots in Vista Ultimate by
Daze N. Knights
I built a new box and installed Vista Ultimate a couple of years ago,
which has begun to occasionally reboot in a spontaneous and random
manner. I don't recall exactly when this began, but the first time it
happened was at least 6 months ago. And it's not often; maybe averaging
once every 3-4 weeks. It has nothing to do with how long the PC has been
on: sometimes I've been on it for hours;...

Vista search including double quote by
Vern Rabe
Vista ultimate. I want to search multiple dtsx files for the existence of a
string that includes a double quote. Specifically:
ProtectionLevel"1
When I search for that string, it appears to treat the double quote as a
space, and returns files that contain both "ProtectionLevel" and "1", but
not necessarily juxtaposed. Maybe there's an escape character I can prefix
the double quote with?

Missing On-Screen Volume Meter by
Lynia143
Hello, all. I know that this has been covered in quite a few other
threads, but I've yet to find a solution to my issue and am hoping
someone may be able to assist me.
I recently had to replace my desktop, which was using XP, with a new
system that is running Vista. I know my way around a system fairly
well, but I'm having trouble finding out how to make my on-screen volume
meter return to...

Broken Links in Vista by
Joe[_23_]
I recently noticed that links in the Start Menu's recently used programs and
quick start part of the Start Menu don't work. This only seems to be for
Microsoft Office 2007 programs (Word, Excel, etc). These shortcuts work
fine when accessed from the Start-All Programs-Microsoft Office menu or the
Programs directory directly. I also noticed that the Device Manager link
under "Tasks" in the...

"Your User Profile Has Not Loaded Correctly." by
Spencer[_2_]
I am using Vista Home Premium. It had been working satisfactorily until
about a month ago, on startup, it loaded the Windows default desktop and
gave me the error message "Your User Profile has not loaded correctly. See
Event Log". The Administrative Events Log showed one or more "User Profile
Service" errors. I do not know enough to understand them, but one, but one
error number was...

Greetings!
This newsgroup message is an assignment from a local community college
regarding using newsgroups.
The subject listed above, my favorite feature of Vista, is fortunately an
easy one for me to answer:
It will not be a retail operating system much longer.

Vista Ultimate, No Audio on HDMI TV by
pilotplanes
Hello. This has worked for a long time, but suddenly it stopped. I
hook up my TV to my HP Pavilion laptop via an HDMI cable. Picture
works. Sound does not. I have Conextant sound. Yes, I chose SPDIF as
the default in the Control Panel. Yes, I un-installed and re-installed
the sound drivers. What changed since the last time this worked?
Upgraded Vista to Ultimate. HP did a BIOS update. Many...

Vista is on the move upwards, XP is on the decline, and Linux isdoing the usual. by

Yeah, one can always come up with an excuse as to why not and things are
not correct in his or her opinion, but show me some figures that say
otherwise.
I like Linux as I have used it within the last 4 years, but the

UAC User Account by
Terry
I have two programs that need to run on boot up. In both cases I get prompted
to allow. Can I turn this prompt off for particular users by turning UAC off?
Or does it turn off for everyone?
Can UAC be configured to be off for JUST these two programs?
Appreciate any help.

There are two characters who post in this ng, yes you know who I mean
they are the two fruitcakes who keep protecting windows by spouting crap
to anyone who praises Linux or the Mac who are really ruining this ng.
I really do not care that much since even though I dual boot and use
windows as little as I can I much prefer Linux.
But these nutjobs really do not care about windows either. They...

In the Vista version of Windows Explorer the names of a folder is usually

They have suddenly disappeared.
Can anyone tell me how to get them back. They still appear in 'properties'.
