Web Banking problem by
Martin Racette
Hi,
I'm running Vista 64bit, and so far everything is just working as advertise,
except for one thing (an important one though)
When I try to login to my bank (TD Canada Trust), I get to the login just right,
but when I click the login (after I entered ID, and password), all I get is an
error page that tells me to make sure that the SSl and TLS is enable (they are
all enable)

UAC and IE Protected Mode? by
Doug Walch
I'm curious to know whether there is a diffence in IE security vulnerability
between running Vista with UAC enabled (hence IE is in protected mode,
versus, running Vista with UAC disabled, with the user NOT in the local
admins group.
Thanks

Google desktop isnt allowed to start by
Jon
Hi, for some reason windows defender is blocking google desktop as a start
up program and I cant launch it either. For reference if you have not seen
this, this is the software explorer and it has the program and says if it is
clasified or not and some reason it says it is not classified. But that isnt
the problem. When I click on it I cant choose to enable it so either it is a

cardmod.h still can't find it by
Brian C. Barnes
I've downloaded the Windows SDK dated 11/7/2006. Can't find this file. I
found a message posted back in 2004 saying that card services wasn't ready,
but by now it should be, I would think. Anyone know where this file is, and
how to get it?

Bitlocker Validation Info by
niknik
Hi,
I was wondering what exactly the Validation info is that is protected
by the VMK.
In some doc I saw it protects some exe's? How?
Bitlocker is very interesting, especially the Elephant paper.
Congratulations on getting Vista out, BTW..
Thanks,

HowTo delete app compat. settings? by
Thomas Boerkel
HI!
Vista has automagically made some compatibility settings for some
applications, namely "ElevateCreateProcess".
How can I delete these settings (I want to try again with a different
version of the apps)?
I can see them in the Compatibility Wizard and in the Application
Compatibility Manager (from ACT 5.0). But neither of them seem to be

How to perform High security tasks from a low level security app?? by
GSLockwood (IUnknown)
Hello,
In other threads, I've seen recommendations to in order to circumvent the
vista permissions dialogs that they build their .net application with a
manifest in a particular way.
How to do the equivalent from C++?
Is there a "manifest" technique?

Recommended license & trial coding by
Andre Lorbach
Hi all,
I am looking forward to make an application complaint to the Windows VIsta
Software Logo Spec 1.1.
Till now an administrative user always had full access to the registry. Now
with UAC, write access to most parts of the registry needs to be requested. I
have found a way to get this level of access, but the Logo guide tells me to
only require this kind of access if necessary.

Bitlocker experience by
Luis Carlos Delgado (Costa Rica)
Hello:
I installed Windows Vista RC2 last sunday, and enabled Bitlocker that same
day. At first a little bit reluctant to the idea of having my whole volume
encrypted and potentially locked, since this was a fresh install (still had
no valuable info), I went for it.
Since my laptop does not have a TPM chip, I had to stick with storing the
key on a USB drive (which happens to be an iPod...

How do I bring up the Administrator Command Prompt? by

I tried to adapt my XP defrag script to Vista x64 RC1, but I ran into a snag.
When I execute the defrag command I get a nice message (below) that I need
to elevate my privs to run the defrag.exe cmd.

Remotely reading HKLM registry key by
Jerry West
I have been successful in reading the registry on remote Vista systems --for
the most part. I have no trouble reading the HKCU keys. I can read most of
the HKLM keys. However, I have found that some of the HKLM keys are not
accessible for reading. For example, I can read any value within the
following remote registry key:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
But if I try to...

Need to replace dll in System32 with different version trusted ins by
nat
Hi,
I have read about WRP in Windows Vista but I still need to find a way to
replace
a version of ir50_32.dll which exists in C:\Windows\System32 folder with a
different version in order to run some products.
In Windows XP the installation setup takes care of this but in Windows Vista
this directory is a protected resource and only TrustedInstaller has full
control over the files. Hence,...

can't turn on firewall by
Theano
Security Center reports firewall is off. Options to turn it on are grayed out
and it says Group Policy is controlling my settings. Why, I am not on a
domain? I'm connected to my home wireless network. Perhaps I don't really
need the firewall behind a router, but it was on last night, before I
upgraded to this RTM build. How can I turn it on and how can I turn off Group
Policy settings.

Windows Live OneCare ?'s by
Dr. Heywood Floyd
1 - Tune-Up has a schedule setting but no On/Off that I can find. Is there one?
2 - Tune-Up did a defrag on all three of my drives "C", "D" and "E". Is there a way to prevent
this - to have it only defrag a selected drive? My "C" drive is my working drive and I have XP
pro on "E" that I use for testing. I'd just as soon an application that I'm running from a
chosen, booted OS 'stay home'....
