Windows found that this file is potential harmful by
Jeff Koenig
I am trying not to get so mad at this OS that I rip it off of my PC, but
these types of deals are driving me nuts.
I am in a database class and had a Access database file emailed to me (it
was zipped). When I try to extract it on my laptop with Vista, I get the
"Windows found that this file is potential harmful" error and can go no
further. There is nothing wrong with this file. This is...

Won't accept passwords for Hotmail, Yahoo!, etc. by
Richard
Hello;
I have a Gateway desktop running OEM Windows Vista. New out of the box, I
could log-in to my ISP email, Hotmail, etc. The computer no longer accepts
any passwords and won't log into any websites such as email and home banking.
Any ideas what settings have been changed so I can gain access to password
required websites?
Thank you,

Apparently permissions preventing VB code access to Windows\System32 folder by
Rick
Apparently my Access VB Code does not have permission to access the
"C:\Windows\System32" folder. This code ran perfectly under Windows XP SP2
before upgrading to Windows Vista.
When trying to call a function from a dll file using VB for Access 2007 I
receive the following error:
Run time error '53': File not found: emdaz32.dll
Normally the following code accesses the dll file:

Anti Virus Problems by
Joe
When I bought the computer the first thing I did was uninstall MacKfee. I
then installed Bit Defender, but that had problems. It would routinely get
messages saying "Bit Defendr Stopped Working", with no explanation. So, I
uninstall that and to to PC Security Sheild. It worked for 3 days and then
also stopped working. Same "Stopped Working" message. Uninstalled it,
reinstalled it, froze my...

Windows Vista Security Center by
Nuitarius
Hi
I am having problems with the security center.
1. I have had Windows Defender installed on my PC from the beginning, I
never deactivated it and it has run smoothly. It has downloaded new
definitions and seached the PC as it should.
Problem: The security center tells me that Windows Defender is NOT active
(even though it is). I have checked the Help and went to the Defender Setup
screen...

Acquiring User Locations on VISTA. by
Superfreak3
We have an .exe that fires off to read an .ini file to grab some
version information, which is in turn used to determine if our
automated update process should be fired off. The ini file we are
trying to find is located in
Users\UserA\AppData\Roaming\MyCompany\MyApp\
UserA is a Standard User with UAC enabled. When I attempt to fire
the .exe, I am prompted for Credentials of an...

I cannot login to my server at work. When using XP i did not have this issue.
After entering the address to reach my employer's secure server I am first
met with a window that states I "do not have the proper privileges to install
this application". I click "ok" and at the bottom of the page that has opened
I click "continue" which allows me to go to the SecurePage though it states

Norton360 -v- Defender by
Lynx[_2_]
Windows Defender doesn't recognise Norton360 antivirus on my new system.
Symantec suggested turning Defender off. That doesn't sound like good advice
to this novice. Can anyone advise me please.

Many thanks, in anticipation...

Aargh! Keep Getting "Certificate Revoked" Messages! by
jollyscholar
I am at my wit’s end! I frequently get _certificate has been revoked_ for no
reason. I even got it when trying to register for posting on THIS site!!!
I have gone into Internet Options/Security and tried re-setting the security
as low as it will go, to no avail.
It also happened when I tried to sign up for Instant Messenger – I
downloaded everything, careful to use the version...

Microsoft Mail Spam mail posting itself as a Safe Sender? by
Zydonk
I have the Royal Bank of Scotland phishing spam posting itself as a Safe
Sender, even though I have already designated it as Junk Mail. How is this
possible? Is this a fault with Vista's Mail, or a harbinger of worse to come?
Does anyone have a solution?

Can't save back to same location... by
Howard Woodard
I recently upgraded my machine from XP Pro to Vista Ultimate. After about a
week of constant slogging my way through issue after issue it appeared that
I finally had everything cleared up and it was working fine. That may not
be the case after all...
I have always used an external USB hard drive for some of my more sensitive
files, turning the drive on only when I needed to access them. ...

Spybot Messed up Windows Mail by
Joe
I loaded Spybot S&D for some extra protection, but when I did so Windows Mail
got real slow. I uninstalled SB via System Restore and the problem went away.
Could it be soemthing to do with SB altering the registry? I've used S&D for
years on XP and had no problem with it at all running Outlook. Does anyone
know of a pyware program that works well with Windows Mail? I'm thinking of
just...
