Adobe PDF thumbnails show as icons by
SusanT
I have a new laptop with Vista Home Premium. When I transferred files from
my old XP SP2 laptop, initially the PDF's showed as a thumbnail of the file,
not as an Adobe icon. Now, all of them show the Adobe icon and not the
thumbanil.
How do I fix this? I've spent hours looking for and trying different
suggestions. I do have the "show icon, never thumbnail" option UNCHECKED;
I'm letting...

Folder view won't hold. by
Silverdoor
This is a simple problem yet very frustrating.
I want and set my folder views to "Icons or large Icons" and no matter what
I do as soon as I leave any folder the view settings default back to list.
List takes too long for me to rapidly seek out what I need.
I have checked all relevant settings (That I can think of) and this still
keeps happening to all folders on all drives (approx. 1TB of...

Maximum size of shadow copies / restore points by
DevilsPGD
I've noticed what appears to be an interesting quirk with shadow copies.
It looks like Vista bases shadow copies on a "maximum space" rather then
on a guaranteed minimum available space basis.
While reasonable on the surface, there is one problem with this
implementation. If you create a file larger then your shadow copy's
maximum size, delete it, then recreate the file (potentially a...

PDF's won't Associate with Acrobat by
adamsr2
I can’t get Windows Vista Professional to associate my .pdf files with my
Adobe Acrobat Standard 8.1. This became a problem after I had to completely
uninstall and re-install Adobe Acrobat. All my .pdf files are reachable if I
open Adobe Acrobat first and within Adobe Acrobat navigate to open the files.
I tried re-installing Adobe Acrobat but that didn’t help.
I worked with file...

Vista gives "not enough space" error when copying to "Documents" by
Shaddix
I have a C: and a E:, C is vista, E is everything else.
I moved all the files under my user directory to the E drive. When I access
the documents directory through the start menu, the address bar says " User
Documents "
I tried to copy a 15GB directory to here, It failed saying I only had 14GB
of space. Which I do have 14GB of space on C: but not on E: I have 800GB of
space. I verified...

Syncronising mp3's with amended tags by
James A
Hello,
Thanks for reading this, this issue has been stressing me so much!!.
I'm currently using WMP 11 to sync music on my laptop with my mp3 player. I
usually sync every few days, but then amend their ID tags more frequently.
But once the file is loaded, it the tags don't update themselves during the
sync. I have to to delete them, and then let the sync add the fresh ones in
their place.

through to Site, but this is a gif file.....
Why can't I find C:\Program Data?
What should C:\Program Data used for?
What is going on in C:\Program Files
Annie.

Problem using Low Power State by
BlueNightmare
Hello,
I have just two days ago bought or rather had a brand new system built,
its an Intel Core 2 Duo, and the problem I have is that when I put the
system into the low power state, the Monitor goes off, but I then hear
this persistant loud infact piercingly loud high pitched noise coming
from the PC, only way I could stop it was to switch off at the mains,
not something I like to do of...

Windows Complete PC Backup drive selection!? by
Patrick
Hi all,
I used Windows Complete PC Backup in my Vista Ultimate to backyp my system
drive. Now when I want to do a complete PC backup.... my hardware hasn't
changed!...... Windows Complete PC Backup automatically pre-selects C and D.
C is my system drive and D is not. D is a data drive on which there are no
paths required by the system.
Worse is that I can't deselect D and that C+D won't fit on...

Folders won't delete by
Dave Scott
When I delete a folder that contains any content (a remote drive where I
store music files) Vista shows the file as being deleted, but a few minutes
later it re-appears. If I delete the contents first, it stays deleted. any
idea what's going on? The problem seems to apply to nested folders as well
as the root directory.

move files from one Windows computer to another over internet by
Dave Bolt
Note: ADSL has an upload and a download speed. The upload is quite a lot
slower, try divide by 10.
How big are the files?
What do you mean by slow? Are you comparing with a wired network connection?
Typical wired connection speeds currently are 100mbps, that's 100 mega bits
per second, roughly divide by 10 for a figure in bytes per second. (Gigabit
network cards are coming in). Compare with...

move files from one Windows computer to another over internet by
dean-dean
Does your Internet Service provider offer you "personal web space" (usually
via ftp). Check with their web site or talk to them on the phone as to how
to set this up. Once set up, you can upload your files to the ftp site,
using Windows Explorer or another ftp client, and your friends can download
them via http.

XPS thumbnails by
Charles M.
I had a problem with the XPS viewer, but installing and uninstalling the XPS
Essentials Pack fixed that. Anyway, I had changed the file association while
trying to figure out what was wrong, and doing so stopped XPS thumbnails
from being generated. Since there isn't an option to revert the file type to
its default settings in Vista, I was wondering if there is a registry key
that controls...

Unable to Relocate Shell Folders by
jsmartin22
Hello,
I have 3 drives:
C - Which contains system info and the user shell folders (Documents,
Pictures, etc.)
D - RAID1, intended to store user data.
E - Drive to hold backup data.
I want to relocate the shell folders from C to D, so I can separate my data
from the OS. The process to do this is described at the link below.

Partitioned drive problem by
Bruce Hansen
I have a partitioned hard drive with one of the halves as a recovery area.
The problem is everything is being saved to the recovery side, and not the
regular C drive. This problem started after installing vista and it asked
weather or not I wanted a recovery partition. Is there a way to have all the
files automatcally go to C?

System Folder (Favorites) Broken by
Colin
I had changed my Favorites Folder a few times with no problem (Start | right
click on Favorites | enter a new folder in the Location tab). Just today, I
tried to use a Briefcase so I could share between computers, and it asked me
about the desktop.ini file. I think I made a bad choice in answering the
question, because now the Location tab is gone from my Favorites properties
under the Start...
