Good one.

Here's another that will make access to it faster after the first
time:

Click the Start orb

All Programs

Accessories

System Tools

Find System Restore

Right-click it and PIN TO THE START MENU

Windows updated something that changed your registry and caused this

Just go to System Restore, and let Windows restore your system to the
date when you last logged off. System Restore has certain restore
points for you to choose from, and it will show you what updated after
your last log-off.

It happened to me, so I know what I am talking

I logged into another User Account and went to System Restore. Once
there, I set it to take my system back one day, prior to an update that
happened the day _after_ I last logged off! Once I did that, I logged
out of that User Account, and tried my main User Account again. System
Restore had worked perfectly. I was able to log-in as usual and
everything was back to normal!

It is amazing to me how much bad advice is being given to correct this

You failed to quote the part where I said

"_-Fortunately_for_me,_I_had_set-up_more_than_one_User_Account_, so I
logged into another User Account and went to System Restore."- Clearly,
my suggestion was for those who already have a second User Account they
can log onto. It was inadvertent if I implied that your links are not
good ones, for they are; but they do not address the issue of
_User_Profie_Services_failing_the_logon_. Nor are your links what I was
referring to when I mentioned all the bad advice being given. Surely
you have read some of it. As this is my first post on TechArena, and
due to my being unfamiliar; I thought I was posting a separate thread
apart from any particular user, and my suggestion was addressed to no
one in particular. I was merely sharing what worked for me.

I do agree with the many who are crying out for Microsoft to address
the issue. My problem occurred due to Windows Automatic Updates
_while_I_was_logged_off_; and I have read from many that
_while_they_were_logged_on_, everything was working fine; and that it
was _only_ when they went to log back in, that they were unable to do so
because of the problem with User Profile Service failing the Logon.
Therefore, it seems clear that something happened while they were logged
off. That can only be Windows Automatic Updates. Since so many are
having this same problem, then there is no doubt; it is an issue that
Microsoft should address.

Personally, I think people might forget that we have System Restore as
a source for solving many problems, some of our own doing. After all,
we didn't have it prior to Windows XP. I know I almost didn't think of
it. And admittedly I am not a computer whiz. I have taught myself what
little bit I do know. But I do know this: If it was working when I
signed off, then something happened _while_ I was signed off. Common
sense tells me nothing happens while I am logged off, except for Windows
Automatic Updates.

Respectfully, I repeat: My suggestion for going to System Restore is
for those who already have a second User Account they can log onto. I
was lucky, and you are right; I am not sure what I would have done if I
did not have a second account already setup.

I know what I would _not_ have done. I would not have gone online
insulting good people by calling them names, other than their chosen
user name; people who are only trying to help others by sharing what
worked for them. It would seem Sir, that you might think you are the
center of the universe.

If TechArena Administration does not have a policy against caling
people names, then they should. I submitted my correct e-mail address.
If anyone wanted to call me unkind names, they were welcome to use it;
but please do not use this helpful arena to start a dispute or say
things that are unhealthy for TechArena's useful purpose.

*Following are two methods for arriving at System Restore* (for those
who have a second User Account they can log onto, and who might not know
how to find it):
The second method I paraphrased from a post by Nonny, which I like
because it allows me to pin it to my Start Menu.

1. Click _Start_ then click on _Control_Panel_,
click on _System_and_Maintenance_, from there, click on
_Backup_Your_Computer_, and there you will see a link that says:
_Use_System_Restore_to_fix_problems_and_undo_chang es_to_Windows_.

2. __Paraphrased_Quote_from_Nonny_:

Here is your advice below.
Now hero, tell the good people HOW to get to where YOU say to go when
they
CAN NOT log in, and they are a single user account.!!!!!
Don't know, do you?????? Get over yourself Mr. Murphy! Do something
with yourself other than being offensive.-- Since I signed into
TechArena, I assumed I was in TechArena. Makes sense to me. --

"It is amazing to me how much bad advice is being given to correct
this
problem. If people take any of this bad advice they are likely to
royally mess up their system.

For those who might not know how to reach System Restore, just go to
your control panel, then System and Maintenance, then Backup Your
Computer, and there you will see a link that says:
"_Use_System_Restore_to_fix_problems_and_undo_chan ges_to_Windows_".

Following are two methods for arriving at _System_Restore_ (for those
who have a second User Account they can log onto, and who might not know
how to find it):

1. Click _Start_ then click on _Control_Panel_, click on
_System_and_Maintenance_, from there, click on _Backup_Your_Computer_,
and there you will see a link that says:
_Use_System_Restore_to_fix_problems_and_undo_chang es_to_Windows_.

2. This method might be preferable because it allows you to pin
_System_Restore_ to the start menu. Click the _Start_ orb, click
"_All_Programs_ then click on _Accessories_ next click _System_Tools_,
there you will find _System_Restore_, right-click it and
_PIN_TO_THE_START_MENU_.
