Sorry - I forgot to cross post......

Don't quite follow what you're up to. Do you absolutely want to add a
drive or are you interested in replacing one or are you simply looking at
backups?

If not replace, then two possibilities spring to mind: external drive
(USB or firewire) or network.

I find it very comforting to have a backup drive 'just in case.' Of
course, I backup my entire drive (and network drives) almost daily.
However, the files and data on my primary disk are irreplaceable. With
a weekly or so backup disk drive and my (almost) daily backups, I'll
never (hopefully) have to worry about losing my info. I even backup my
drives to two independent backup external drives. I'm anal about
backing up.

s/anal/prudent/ :-)

That is Unix slang for "no, you're not anal, you're prudent"...

Thanks - I feel a whole lot better!!!!!!!

Yeah - I just started an Acronis job five minutes ago, so I looked :-)

Thanks for confirming my earlier guess/half memory.

Yes. Acronis gives you the option to select the entire disk or specific

Thanks to all for the help. I didn't know such enclosures were
available.

If I clone a drive with more than one partition on it, will the other
partitions be cloned automatically?

Those are the kind of enclosures that Gene is talking about: ( 'hdd

Actually I was more thinking about these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...e+sata+adapter

Or for ease of use, the TinyURL version of the above:

http://preview.tinyurl.com/yktu4g4

But both are good, and your suggestion might make the OP feel more secure,
with the drive protected inside an enclosure.

To the OP - be sure that you choose an enclosure or cable that will accept
your drive. Most of the cables accept both 2.5" and 3.5" drives of both
persuasions, IDE/PATA and SATA. Many enclosures accept both IDE/PATA and
SATA too, but many accept only one type, and AFAIK all enclosures accept
only one drive size.

And just to roil the waters a bit more, here's an example of a dock:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...dock&x=20&y=28

Or in TinyURL form, http://preview.tinyurl.com/yhsh74u

The docks I've seen all take only SATA, but they all take either 2.5" or
3.5" drives.
