Hi,
Sure, called a dual boot, very common. Simply ensure that each is installed to a different volume or partition, do not install them both to the same one. Installing Vista alongside XP will create a dual boot, and the bootloader should automatically create the needed entries so that you can choose to load either Vista or the "legacy" operating system (XP) at startup. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "master" wrote in message ... Use multiple partitions. Also be aware of problems with file ownership and
access if the XP partition is NTFS. Most recommend not changing ownership, but you will need to allow the current OS to have full access to the files you need from the other OS. You will need to have your hard drive partition, so that it appears as
either a C:\ drive and another drive, or as a C:\ drive and free space, you can't simply install to the C:\ drive or you'll simply get just Vista. That means for most people they'll need some kind of partition manager to set up their hard drive first. Also you'll need to have your existing hard drive bootable into the existing OS for Vista to be aware of the other OS. If you make your existing OS hidden or non active, vista will not find it. -- David Hettel Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see.
