In xp.. you used to be able to see the file name / path when the my
photos slide show would go.. now in vista this is gone..

Is there any way to hack this feature back in.. or a 3rd party screen
saver which would have it?

Thanks.

The new slide show screen saver in Vista doesn't seem to have this option?

What you can do if you have access to an XP system, just copy the
C:\Windows\System32\ssmypics.scr file from that system and place it in the
C:\Windows\System32 folder in Vista. It will work the same way as it did in
XP.

I've been using the ssmypics.scr for my HKEY_USERS\.Default screensaver
for my Windows XP systems for years without any problems. (This is the
screensaver that runs when no user is logged on)

The HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Screen
Saver.Slideshow\ImageDirectory contains the path of the pictures that
are to be displayed when no user is logged on. I have been trying to use
the Photoscreensaver.scr and the ssmypics.scr in Vista to get this same
behaviour but it can't seem to find the location of the pictures other
than the C:\Windows folder and it doesn't even work when I put the
pictures there? Any ideas?

Both screensavers work fine when a normal user is logged on.

Found the Fix!!!

TROUBLESHOOTING
===================

1. Searched procmon.log to confirm if the FolderPath key (which
determines the location of the pictures) was being read. The log showed
that the key that was being searched was:

"HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Software\Microsoft\Windows Photo
Gallery\Slideshow\Screensaver"

instead of:

"HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Window s Photo
Gallery\Slideshow\Screensaver"

2. Added the "Windows Photo Gallery" registry keys to the Local Service
account
(S-1-5-19) and the screensaver started to work

Hope this helps!

Default Folder location in Vista home edition photo screen saver

Hi Larry,

Vista already has that, look for "photos" in the screensaver listings.

Ronnie
I tried you simple fix on this problem and it made no difference, I still see no file names. I have Vista Business for home use, with all updates and it's just annoying that this good feature doesn't. Am I missing something, like an entry in the registry, or some other little thing for this to work. I would appreciate your help in this. Thanks and regards.
