I need a good DVD burning application. I also need it to be free. What
would you recommend, and where can I download it? I'm ready to install Vista
RC1, but I need to burn the ISO image of the install onto DVD.

The BEST image burning program money can't buy :
http://www.imgburn.com/

ImgBurn can write most types of CD / DVD images and it supports
all the latest writers (including booktype / bitsetting on many of the
major ones - i.e. BenQ, LiteOn, NEC, Plextor, Sony).
You can even use ImgBurn to erase / format your rewritable media!

Try BurnCDCC from TeraByte at:
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/utilities.html

It's #6 from the top of the page.
