RAW format disk by
James[_5_]
My computer system is Window VISTA Ultimate version. The hard disk of my
notebook was not enough, so I bought 160GB Samsung hard disk which separate
two division, one is 60GB and the other is 100GB, and connect by USB.
Someday, it just doesn't work. At first, I think hard disk was dead and then
I found I could see the device but it didn't have any data. I saw the format
was RAW, not NTFS....

fine the version in Vista Ultimate) to start expanded on a physical drive

new window and is hardly ideal.

Selecting Multiple Files and Folders Problem not Fixed by
theprofyte
I tried to run what everyone on this forum said worked for them, the windows
script, and could not get it to run for me, was given an access denied error,
ive waited for a reply in that particular thread but after 2 weeks ive opened
this one. If there is anyone who has figured out how to fix the inability to
select multiple files, or who knows how to make the windows script work,
please let...

Organizing the Favorite Links panel in a dialog box by
AceWriter01
I'm trying to organize the "Favorite Links" section of Navigation Pane, and
I'm getting frustrated. When I'm looking at a Folder Window in Explorer, all
the icons in the Favorite Links portinon of the navigation pane appear in the
order that I want -- with my favorite favorite links showing up on the very
top of the stack. However, when I use the OPEN command from within a
Microsoft Office...

Delete original files of search results by
Leonard
All I want is this. I have a folder (D:\project\rsa with subfolders)
containing some .cpp files. Under XP, I can search '*.cpp' in explorer and
delete the results. In this way all .cpp files in the folder (D:\project\rsa)
are deleted. Under Vista however, it seems that Vista makes a copy of the
..cpp files into a search folder. Delete the .cpp files in the search folder
does not delete the...

How Do I Turn Off Folder Sniffing? by
Specula
I can't stand this folder sniffer that auto changes the way I have my
folders setup. The OS keeps detecting what it thinks is the folder's main
use and changing the columns to suit its determination. Is there a way to
turn off folder sniffing?
Cheers to anyone that can help.

No Thumbnails in Vista Exploer (file manager) by
p_bessey
Vista Explorer suddenly stopped showing thumbnails of jpg's. At first I
couldn't see thumbnails of new pictures I added, but after I cleared the
thumbnail cache using the Windows cleanup utility, I can't see thumbnails of
the older images either. I have already made sure that my system is set for
best appearance (the check box for "do not show thumbnails" is not checked in
the folder...

Unwanted folders installed by Vista by
andycruce
In the root directory of my OS drive there were a number of empy folders
created by something - I assume it was Vista. They all have names like:
2e23bab8965d8884addd8e220128e9
and are empty.
Until I know what they are I'm reluctant to just delete them fearing I'll do
something unexpected to Vista. Anyone know what these are and can I delete
them?

Windows Explorer start folder problem by
JeffG
Since the last few days, when I start Windows Explorer it starts up in
C:\Windows\System32 instead of my local Documents folder. This is also
breaking Java programs when bringing up a file selection dialog. This starts
in the same folder, and is denied access to list the files in that folder.
I proved this by creating a new user. When running Windows Explorer it
starts up in the user's...

File Association Issues by

I have a directory that I keep all of my downloaded progs/update in to keep
them organized. I was browsing through it yesterday and noticed that the
columns used by Windows Explorer were the ones used for pictures. All of the
files are .exe files. I obviously have some association set to recognize
..exe files as images. How can I fix this? I am relatively computer savy,

Missing Window Settings by
Terry[_3_]
Vista never ceases to amaze me, with it's antics. Now it has done another
flip. When working with files, manually sorting and burning a copy of them
them to DVD data disks, the bottom information bar on the file content
windows disappeared. I was tracking the content of each file by it's size,
and the folder's file count on the bottom of each window. During the
operation of copying files...
