explorer favorites box: what an eyesore by
tonj
In Windows Vista Explorer there's a box towards the top left hand corner called Favorites, above the folders section. I consider
this a complete waste of space and an eyesore. Is there any way to get rid of it so that the left column only contains folders?
(like the earlier windows versions).
Thanks for any help.

Public Folders - location and share by
A L L
I want to relocate the "public folders" to another hard drive.
I like to keep my data folders (user and shares) separate from the OS and
programs.
How do I relocate the public folders? The location tab does not include the
move button.
What is the default share for Public folders?
I deleted the existing share so I could move the folder and "restore" did
not restore the share.

'tags' field embedded in metadata by
Samuel
'tags' field embedded in metadata
When I first got vista I could not wait to tag my files, it's the best
feature of the OS in my opinion. However it was important that the data
entered stayed latched in the file, as it mostly does, but I had a horrible
feelng that all my hard work might be missplaced as the all important 'tag'
field was not present in the visible fields of any file under XP....

Cannot delete or rename folder by
northend
I have Vista pre-installed on a new desktop that I have just purchased.
I have had lots of problems but since disabling the UAC most of them have
cleared up. However, I have folders in Documents installed from a zipped
backup from a Windows XP machine and I cannot delete or rename these folders.

Windows NT Backup - Restore Utility - Doesn't! by
Daniel E Jameson
OK, so I downloaded the "Windows NT Backup - Restore Utility" (see my
January 23, 2007 11:12 AM thread). But it won't pull the catalog from my
backup files on my file server. I right click the root node on the left and
choose Catalog File... After I pick a backup file, I get about 1 or 2
seconds of the spinning green circle, but no catalog.
I tried an XP computer on the network that had...

this can be done in XP) somewhere allong the line I really goofed up and so I

Offline files not available by
Jernej Kase
Dear All,
we have SBS 2003 server, with my documents redirected to
\\server\users\user. We' ve been using this with XP withot any problems.
With Vista, the new "documents" folder is redirected to the server, the
option "Always available offline" is checked and greyed out for all
subfolders and files - so everything seems to be ok.
However, after synchronisation, the files are not...

HP OfficeJet 7410 bug by
schildb
Any news as to when the driver will be updated? I connect to the printer
using BlueTooth/Wireless and it finds and installs the HP 7410 driver.
However, when printing duplex, the reverse side is printed upside down (head
to foot instead of head to head). It worked correctly back when I was using
WindowsXP.

Thumnail pictures on icons in eplorer by
[email protected]
Usually Vista will display thumbnails on its folder icons, of images in that
directory or subdirectories. On the whole this seems to work fine. However,
there are a few folders where Vista will not insert them thumbnail images
onto the folder icon. I have noticed that this tends to occur with the
larger folders (i.e. those of around 26GB or larger).
Has anyone else noticed this, and are there...

XMP tagging for PDFs no go! by
Samuel
I know there are list of formats that XMP in Vista cannot tag but I didn't
expect PDF's to be one of them. Especially as XMP is Adobe's own.
Basically I want to tag my file, those being PDF (and PSD) with the built in
tag with Vista, but it does not let me. I know PDF is going through a
standardization process at the moment, I don't know if things will change.
aybe I'm wrong.
Can anyone...

Shell Folder Icons Missing by
indigoblue
Hi, I've moved all of my user folders (documents, music etc) to a network
location using both the right click and drag and drop method. Everything
seems to be OK, except instead of the new blue/green icons, the folders now
have the normal yellow icons...
This wouldn't be much of a problem, but the Links pane in explorer shows
these icons (the desktop folder shows up with a BIN con).
Any...

Folder View Settings by
Extracampine
Reading around, and from my own experience, there seem to be a lot of
problems with Vista Explorer remember view settings (detail view, icons,
etc).
Whats the latest on this? Is there a bug fix, or a way to get Explorer to
remember the settings? Its annoying to have to change them each time I go
back into a folder.

Extra large icons with thumbnail image by
Extracampine
With Vista Explorer, when using the view "extra large icons", the folders
can display a thumbnail of a picture inside the folder. I use this method to
browse music albums, being able to see album covers.
When initially selecting this view, Explorer takes some moments to create
the thumbnails for each folder. On subsequent viewings, it is much fasterm
suggesting Explorer has catalogued these...
