Default Outlook 2007 not indexing files

I would suggest trying the preview of Windows Search 4, which updates the
Vista indexer with a newer version with many bug fixes:

http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/wi...0-preview.aspx

Let us know if that gets things working.

Hi there,

I have a problem within Outlook 2007 when ever I try and search
through
my
emails.

Whenever I perform a search of any of my mail folders, I get no
results
and
a message saying 'Search results may be incomplete because items
are
still
being indexed. Click here for more details'.

When I click for more details, I receive a message saying 'Outlook
is
currently indexing your items'. And telling me that 7695 items are
reminaing
in personal folders, and 17987 items are remaining across all open
mailboxes.

The problem is that this number never goes down, and has been like
this
ever
since I started using the program. Could it be that the indexing
is
stuck
somehow?

I would really appreciate any help anyone could offer.

Many thanks in advance,

Barnaby Legg

Is there a solution to this? Outlook searched my contacts just fine
until one day it just stopped and now gives me the same results noted
above.

Thanks

Default Outlook 2007 not indexing files

I just downloaded the V4 Beta and nothing has changed for me. I have had the
partially indexed message for some months. I have recently been trying to
get the Control PanelIndexing Options to rebuild my indices but it gets a
few hundred documents into the rebuild and hangs up. Windows Task Manager
(Vista) reports that 'Indexing Options' is not responding and I have to abort
it. I cannot restart 'Indexing Options' until I RESET my computer.
Naturally this is quite time consuming and I am looking for relief!

Any further help on this topic would be appreciated.

Run the utility to repair the Outlook data file. It is probable that there
are some file errors that are causing Outlook itself no problems are causing
indexing to fail.

This might be useful:

Default Outlook 2007 not indexing files

Tom,
Please pardon the delay in responding to your suggestion. I also had a
problem with my Outlook reminders not working and after a week or so getting
that straightened out and having minor surgery last week, I am now ready to
get back to the indexing.
I have run scanpst.exe several times. In addition, I moved a couple of
older .pst files to another drive. I still only get a couple of hundred
files indexed before the rebuild loops. I have tried limiting the indexing
to just Outlook or just my documents on the C drive and still get the hangup.
In addition, when I do this it seems to always reset to the defaults when I
reboot.

Something is drastically wrong with this application. Is there anyway to
get a log file out that would show the last record indexed or some other way
to detect what is wrong?

Thanks for your help.

Default Outlook 2007 not indexing files

I have exactly the same problem as in the thread. The suggestion to access a
fixer for .pst and .ost files points to a fix for Outlook 2002, whereas I
believe Outlook 2007 is what this thread is about. In any event I am using

Outlook@2007 (12.0 6300 5000) SP1 MSO 12.0 6213.1000

and have all updates installed for Vista as of the date of this posting.

The files referred to by this link do not seem to appear in an explorer
listing for this Vista/Outlook installation.

Where is the 'fix' programs for Outlook 2007 stored? I see only one lonely
..DLL at this location.

Windows Search 4 will ultimately be available through Windows Update, but
right now {being very recently released} it is only available through direct
download. I'm glad this fixed your issues though {note I also replied to you

I would suggest trying the preview of Windows Search 4, which updates the
Vista indexer with a newer version with many bug fixes:

Let us know if that gets things working.

Search shows ticks in 'display search results as I type,' 'make

Deleted items is not ticked.

Instant Search Pane is set to 'Only the currently selected folder'.

Okay... have just repaired my data files using SCANPST.EXE,
re-opened
Outlook, and same problem, I'm afraid: search finds no results,
with
the
message that Outlook is still indexing items.

Use the Outlook data file scan and fix programme. When the scan

Scanpst.exe is installed when you install Outlook. It is located
at:
drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE12.

Hi there,

I have a problem within Outlook 2007 when ever I try and search
through
my
emails.

Whenever I perform a search of any of my mail folders, I get no
results
and
a message saying 'Search results may be incomplete because
items
are
still
being indexed. Click here for more details'.

When I click for more details, I receive a message saying
'Outlook
is
currently indexing your items'. And telling me that 7695 items
are
reminaing
in personal folders, and 17987 items are remaining across all
open
mailboxes.

The problem is that this number never goes down, and has been
like
this
ever
since I started using the program. Could it be that the
indexing
is
stuck
somehow?

I would really appreciate any help anyone could offer.

Many thanks in advance,

Barnaby Legg

Is there a solution to this? Outlook searched my contacts just fine
until one day it just stopped and now gives me the same results
noted
above.

Thanks

Krykstar

Default Outlook 2007 not indexing files

I've read through this very frustrating thread. I see no way to fix
the problem, and the descriptions here are identical to the pain I have
suffered through nearly a hundred hours of work on fixing it.

I have tried everything you discussed, and a lot more, and I simple
cannot get Outlook ever to produce search results.

It is clear that thousands of people are suffering the same broken
search problems, and it is criminal that Microsoft does not fix it.
Vista is crap.

I'm fairly good with technical stuff (Ph.D. in astrophysics) but am
completely stumped. Does _anybody_ know how to fix this crappy search
system in Outlook?
