Big K,
I can't say if this will help, but might be worth looking at. I was missing access to network drives. Wouldn't let me log on, show directories, etc. I researched on Knowledgebase and came up with stuff on the IRPStackSize setting in the Registry. That setting has to do with providing memory for shares, etc. I added and entry, increased it from what was standard and things started working. Since the printer also involves shares I wonder if there could be a connection. Good luck!! Rev "BigK" wrote in message ... I am still having this issue and have not yet found an answer. I have found many, many people asking the same question so this is apparently a widespread problem. I have a Windows XP Home computer with 2 printers installed. I have been able to print to them when I had XP MCE on my laptop. Now with Vista I cannot. I have both machines with the same Network Workgroup. I have them all on static IPs connected to a Linksys WRT54G Router. My laptop is connected via an Intel 2200 Wi-Fi Adapter. Both computers have the same User name and both have the same password. When I try to add the printers via add printer wizard, it sees both printers but when I try to actually install them it tries to connect and says Access Denied. I also tried to just browse to the computer and right click on the shared printers and chose connect. Still Access Denied. Anyone who had this find a solution? Anyone know how to solve this. If you do, I bet you could make many dozens of people, hundreds of people happy. Thanks. BTW I am using 5728 |

It's not a printer setting, it's a server share, file setting.
I think you will need to turn off Simple File Sharing (any explorer windows, uncheck [I am on a domain so do not have this OS] ), then open the system drive, drill down to \windows\system32\spool\drivers. Hold down the shift key, select the folder, right click and set sharing permissions. If you want to research further, and for full instructions -- go to M$ Knowledgebase and search for "IRPStackSize". It will give you a number of different situations related to that parameter and affecting networking, etc. Rev "BigK" wrote in message ... "Rev" wrote in message ... OK, I'm wondering if anyone at MS is really listening to these forums or
bug reports. I submitted a bug report on this problem over a week ago and still nothing. Nobody seems to have any concrete solutions on the forums either. all the stuff that's been said has been for XP PRO. We aren't even talking about that OS. we're talking about XP HOME. you can't adjust permission can't change F&PS settings nothing. What are we supposed to do? UPgrade everything to pro? I'm sorry but I can't justify the price just to get the printer to work. Why won't anyone listen?
