DvD drive stopped recognising any media by
Dougie G
I'm looking for help on this one, I've been trying to fix it for the last 2
days to no effect.
If I insert any disc into into my Asus 1612BL dvd drive it green lights
chunters for a minute or two and then goes dead, right clicking on the drive
to explore or open elicits the message (when it eventually responds) "insert
a disc".
So far I have tried rolling back to a previous update,...

Adding a 2nd HD in Vista Ultimate OEM by
AndyH
Hi All,
I'm running Vista Ultimate OEM vers. and I'm trying to add another SATA HD

additional drive for swap, small backups etc. but have exceeded capacity and
need a new full backup drive.
Problem is I can't get Vista to recognise the drive. It appears in the
Device Manager as an unknown device and doesn't appear at...

motley
Hi.
I've been running my machine with XP Pro with a two 320Gig SATA Raid and
with two different sized SATA disks(non RAID).
Anyways, Two days ago I installed Vista Ultimate to my machine.
Installation went just fine, it asked for the RAID drivers in the install
and I gave it to it. Vista got installled. Then after awhile I noticed that
I'm missing 2 harddrives! The ones that were not in the...

Backing up in Vista by
HallMarc
Has anyone else had difficulty in using an internal SCSI tape drive for
backing up in Vista? How did you resolve the issue. Would love to hear from
you. The tape drive worked fine under XP.
I did figure out how to enable removable storage. I can see the drive in
computer manager, it even see the tapes in the drive. But try as I might, I
cannot get the included back-up software to...

No sound with headphones by
Jack K
At present, the sound is working properly from my Vaio laptop's internal
speakers, but when I plug in the headphones to the headphone jack, I don't
get any sound. The driver is a "high definition audio device" version
6.0.6000.16386 dated 21/06/2006. Vista device manager informs me that "this
device is working properly". Nevertheless, I uninstalled this driver, then
turned the computer off...

I cannot install anything from a CD on Vista by
Tara P
I am not a new user, and do have administrator rights. The problem is that I
cannot install or read a CD. Windows explorer immediately stops working. I
can listen to audio CD's and watch DVD's in windows media however, so I know
the problem is not with the DVD player itself. I have checked my device
drivers, and the VOBID InstantDrive CD SCSI CD Rom Devise is not working. I
have...

iPod shuffle issue by
NewToVistaInChicago
My new Windows Vista Dell machine is not recognizing the shuffle when I plug
it in the front USB ports. It does come up when I plug it into one of the
back USB ports. I checked the front ports and they work with other devices.
Spent an hour with Dell tech support and they think it is a compatbility
issue with Vista and/or iTunes. Has anyone experienced a similar problem?
Any ideas on...

For Tim: ||_|| Why My TV Tuner? by
Andy
OK, Tim,
Now, let me get this straight: the tuner IS VISTA CERTIFIED!!!!!!!!!!!!! but
no functionality at all.
From the recent analysis of the situation, it might be a port problem.
Because the tuner was tested on another computer and it did not work. That
computer had XP. It had the drivers. So, i'll just have to... sort of buy
another one, no?

voice from headset, other sounds from speakers not working by
rfarrand
I am not able to find the settings that were in XP, that allow you to have
all voice come in through the headset, instead of the speakers and the rest
of the sound come from the speakers. I have my headset working, but when
another person talks back to me, it comes through the speakers instead of the
headset. In XP you were able to have the voice playback come through just
the headset and...

Sound - speakers & headset by
PE
I have speakers plugged into the motherboard sound socket and USB headset.
In Windows XP I am able select the speakers for audio playback and the
headset for voice playback and this works fine (eg speakers for music and
headset for Skype).
But in Vista I can only choose one of these devices for playback of audio
and voice. Is there a way to use both the speakers and the headset?

Dedicated voice devices by
Guru
Hello,
In Windows XP you were able to connect, for example, a USB headset and then
set that device as the "Voice" device while keeping the main computer
speakers as the default device for all other sounds. This allowed a person to
keep their headset connected and use it for voice conversations using IM
programs while still being able to have their speakers for music and other
sounds. Even...
