Need help removing Vista by
Jo
Vista should be able to see and write to your DVD drive natively. Do you
have any idea why it isn't being recognized? Could you go into device
manager and try to see if it is listed? I would first try to work at that,
as it would be the easiest way to back up the data partition/folder. If you
still can't back up from within Vista, then definitely image your drive
before doing anything...

can NOT get Vista to install and run by
Jo
My experience is different. I also have a hyperthreaded (3 GHZ) laptop with
1 GB Ram (128 used by Video) and don't find it slow at all. And it is just
the regular beta2 available to the public, not a later beta. Do you keep
your drive cleaned of temp files and defragment when needed? I would also
would look at your free drive space, but if that isn't a problem, then I
couldn't account...

Wrong MD5 Checksum for Pre-RC1 by
Schevenels Patrick
Hello.
I downloaded Windows Vista Pre-RC1 using Akamai Download Manager on Windows
Vista website but at the end of the download, the download manager tells me
that the downlad is corrupt.
I've checked the MD5 Checksum myself and it's wrong.
I think I will download the file again but I would like to know what's the
cause of this problem (I experienced the same problem with Beta 2 : I had to

Compatibility report when installing by

When I run the Vista upgrade advisor I have no problems.
When I try to install the DVD I get a Compatibility report that says:

driver software for these devices:
Your computer is not compatible with Windows Vista, so Windows Vista cannot

How to dual boot Windows Vista Beta 2 and Windows XP by
Martin Healy
Thanks for your comments. I might consider installing Vista Beta 2 on a
separate hard disk as the code in this OS may not be fully stable. However,
I feel that I should still be able to dual boot Vista Beta 2 and XP on the
one HD. Having read other posts, I'm not going to make the Vista primary
partition active as it might not allow me to dual boot OSs. The only doubt
or confusion I have...

Vista won't boot-- Try F8 Win Adv Options or Startup Repair It by
Mark
Hi Chad
Thank you for the comprehensive response. I tried working through a number
of your suggestions all to no avail. I eventually reformatted that section of
the hard drive and removed the partition before creating a new one and
reinstalling.
Avast has worked well without a hitch, so thanks for that.
An install of vista to a C: drive with trend worked fine, but another

Installing Vista Beta (5384) by
Elimination
- Installing Vista x86 under XP x86:
After copying and unpacking it makes it's (first) reboot. After displaying
the bootmanager menu it automaticly picks Vista setup. Screen goes black and
"ticks" (as in switching resolution probably) and there is some HDD usage for
a couple of seconds (it doesn't spin the cd drive up). Few seconds later it
reboots.
This results in the same loop.

installation issue by
peter
For your information:
all you need is an empty partition in order to install Vista...........it
will create the dual boot options.
The choice will come up when you boot.....Old OS or Vista
You actually paid for Vista???

installation issue/Try by
Chad Harris
Kyle --
I think you can fix your boot situation using this:
If you have to format to try again, vista will allow you to run setup in XP
and keep your drive letters or run setup from a restart and change the drive
letters but it will create a reliable dual boot. You have your space, so
once you install Vista if you went to a new build you can use Disk
Management from XP to format your Vista...

NO VIA drivers for Vista Beta 2!! by
thewizard-oz
Yes, Vista did come with "some" VIA drivers and it installed them BUT they
were incorrect and NONE of my VIA devices worked! Given that my motherboard
is a VIA chipset based ECS PT800CE-A, you can imagine what a nightmare that
was. In Device Manager ALL VIA devices came up as installed but incorrect and
not working.
There were no updates from VIA or VIA Arena so I have no choice but to...

Vista 5536 Unable to install by
Zorn
I just built a new system, and Vista STILL won't install (never did on my old
one either). What happens is I get through Vista setup, and it reboots my
computer, then it's on the step of "Completing Installation", when all of a
sudden the backlights on my keyboard flicker and flash, and I get a BSOD that
references the file nvlkddm.dll, or something very similar. The BSOD flashes
so...
